Choosing a reference manager
The following may help you to decide which reference manager suits your needs.
- Which application have you heard of and how much do you know about it? If you are already familiar with one application it may be best to continue to use it, rather than learn a brand new application.
- Do you need to work collaboratively? If you intend to share libraries or collaborate on research, it may be best to use the same application as the people you are working with.
- What type of references do you need to store? If you use a variety of references and you need to modify the citation style, some applications make this easier than others.
- Do you prefer to use the desktop version, the online application or your mobile device? Your personal preference may determine which reference manager you decide to use.
