Choosing where to publish

Hello, I’m Gary Pearce I’m one of the Library Liaison Managers and I look after research support here at RMIT University Library. We’ve been teaching into the School of Graduate Research PhDUp program for a while now and we are really happy to offer you this online version of our session ‘Choosing Where to Publish’.

Choosing where to publish is one of those important decisions you will make as an academic researcher and it will have a significant impact on your standing as a researcher. This module will introduce you to criteria and tools to help you make that decision.

This module should take about 30 minutes to complete.

By the end of the workshop you will be able to:

  • Identify journals that are relevant to your research interest
  • Discern the quality of journals you could potentially publish in
  • Understand the issues of visibility and discoverability, including open access
  • Develop an awareness of the problems associated with predatory publishing.

You may also be interested in viewing the following webinar, recorded from the Library’s ‘PhD Up!’ program, which complements this online module:

We really hope you find this module useful. Please let us know what you think via the feedback form at the end.
